CNN, MSNBC fail to cover on air CBP finding ‘no evidence’ Border Patrol agents whipped Haitian migrants

Media organizations were fast to vilify Border Patrol brokers previous year when they were being accused of hanging Haitian migrants with their reins, or applying whips, in Del Rio, Texas but the story was mainly overlooked when the head of Customs and Border Protection (CBP) on Friday explained there was “no evidence” that occurred. 

CNN, MSNBC, and NBC all declined to protect the tale on air from Friday when the information broke via Tuesday early morning, in accordance to a review of transcripts carried out by Fox News Electronic.

CBS briefly described the tale on its night newscast, but the network then focused on the agency recommending punishment for the agents for infractions these as “offensive” language and unwanted pressure. CBS failed to advise viewers that migrants were not whipped, a claim that was at first made by members of the press, President Biden and other top rated Democrats. 

ABC Information Dwell Prime also touched on the story for close to 30 seconds in the course of a headline round-up on Friday evening. CNN and NBC News lined the story online.

Other personalities that prompt migrants have been whipped included CNN’s Don Lemon and Victor Blackwell, NBC’s Morgan Chesky and MSNBC’s Alicia Menendez. 


Even at the time, having said that, the photographer behind the viral photographs of the brokers on horseback claimed the shots were staying misconstrued, and he in no way noticed anyone get whipped.

DePauw University professor and media critic Jeffrey McCall explained many information shops have a “very poor track report of adhering to up on stories,” specifically types in which the information organizations built blunders or mischaracterized an function.
