The Charlevoix Kiwanis Club sponsored its 13th annual Vandenberg Essay Contest

CHARLEVOIX — The Charlevoix Kiwanis Club not too long ago sponsored its 13th Once-a-year Vandenberg Essay Contest.
This contest was influenced by a very similar contest that the Boyne City Kiwanis Club has been functioning for several a long time.
“Our club was determined by the kindness and generosity of a gentleman who was a previous retired math trainer from Grand Rapids and a Charlevoix General public Faculties substitute instructor,” in accordance to a push release from the Charlevoix Kiwanis Club.
“Merle Vandenberg was also a math tutor for all of our foster young children and he was a consummate supporter for pupils who had been recovering from compound abuse,” the launch states. “This mild mannered gentleman who was seldom viewed with no his activity coat, tie and warm smile was also a member of the Charlevoix Kiwanis Club. In his memory we created the Vandenberg Essay Contest. His generosity continues as we have our pupils generate an essay about a nonprofit that touched their coronary heart and just one in which they would gladly give their winning essay money to.”
The Charlevoix Kiwanis Club just lately held a Zoom Awards Assembly for final year’s fifth grade winners and another Zoom assembly for this year’s fifth quality winners. Pupils who won will have $100 sent to their nonprofit. In addition, there were being two students awarded grand prize and their nonprofits will be the recipients of $200.
Sixteen students were chosen from the Kiwanis essay committee to get checks that will be donated to the nonprofit of their selection. There have been eight successful essays in Sarah Muladore’s fifth grade course at Charlevoix Elementary faculty and 8 winners from Jane Garver’s course of fifth graders from last calendar year.
