Sheets and Giggles Bedding Review

Before I started working at Apartment Therapy, I had one piece of criteria when it came to shopping for sheets: Cheap. I usually grabbed whatever was in the discount aisle at the closest big box store and wore them out before following the exact same pattern a year later. But I’ve since been introduced to a whole new vocabulary in sheet-dom—thread count, sateen, percale, flannel, linen—and it’s been enlightening.

So when I recently got the chance to try a sheet set from the trendy new bedding company Sheets & Giggles, I was intrigued. For starters, their sheets are made from eucalyptus lyocell (a sustainable fabric alternative made from the pulp of eucalyptus trees) and are hypoallergenic, breathable, and self-cooling. Plus they have a 4.4-star rating from Amazon reviewers, many of whom claim they are “magic.” Yes, it sounds a bit far-fetched for a pair of sheets, but after three weeks of testing them—you guys, the hype is REAL.

The satiny sheet set arrived in a big purple box, and, per the instructions, I washed them on cold and dried them on a gentle cycle with low heat before using them. Now, I have a thick 14-inch mattress plus a foam topper, and in the past, I have had sheet edges rudely snap free on me in the middle of the night. But this particular set comes with deep pockets that easily fit over the corners with more room to spare. So far, things were off to a good start.

Though the sheets seemed to have lost their shiny patina after the initial wash, they instead gained a soft, silky feel. As soon as I had finished putting the sheets on my bed, my fingers automatically began gliding along the cool fabric; minutes later my head hit the pillow and I took the most luxurious afternoon snooze.

I’ve since washed the sheets and pillowcases several more times and they seem to just keep getting softer and more luxurious. Plus, I can already appreciate how the 400-thread-count impacts the breathability of the fabric. For instance, I sleep hot and my husband generally sleeps cold (there’s a definite power struggle over who controls the heater!), but since swapping our old set for these lightweight sheets, we seem to have struck a good balance.

Sheets & Giggles’ queen sets start at $137.90 (other sizes are also available) and come in eight color options. While you can snag them on Amazon (with free shipping), you can also get them for 30 percent off today from Sheets & Giggles’ One Day Sale. They’re a great alternative for you or anyone on your gift list looking to switch to eco-friendly bedding options that feel luxurious but are affordable.

The only drawback? You’ll be sneaking in a lot more afternoon snoozes than usual. Consider yourself warned.
